Teeth Whitening Basics
Very few people are gifted with naturally brilliant, white teeth and we only see these teeth being modeled in advertisements in the television and magazines. Not anymore. Now, drugstores and grocery stores are teeming with teeth whitening products and everybody can have whiter teeth.
Many factors affect the discoloration of our teeth. Age, smoking, and the hundreds of cups of tea, coffee, wine, certain foods and even some antibiotics cause a stain on the teeth. Here is where the need for teeth whitening comes in. Teeth whitening is the process of lightening the natural color of your teeth without scraping any of the tooth surfaces.
There are so many options for teeth whitening nowadays. There are teeth whitening kits which are the do-it-yourself procedure, the methods done by dentists like professional bleaching, laser whitening, Zoom teeth whitening, or you can even buy over the counter teeth whitening products from any drug stores and supermarkets.
The length of the treatments depends upon the method you use. Some can take as short as 30 minutes while other methods require three to four weeks and several visits to the dentist before the treatment is finished.
The costs of teeth whitening procedures vary. It depends upon the procedure you use. Private charges of dentist also vary from place to place. Some results of teeth whitening procedures could last for a long time, depending again on the procedure you use and on your lifestyle. This means that the teeth whitening procedure cannot control if you go on smoking, or drinking tea and coffee or eat products that can stain your teeth.
People who undergo teeth whitening procedures usually suffer from sensitivity to hot or cold during or after the treatment but this is just passing. Other people will also experience minor discomfort in gums or in the mouth but again, these side effects are just temporary. If side effects continue, you should consult your dentist.
